day 4 of no coffee

December 29, 2004 by Jane

This morning I googled pictures of coffee and cappuccino.

cry

My teeth are still kind of sensitive this morning. I woke up at 2am without fail and stumbled into the bathroom to remove the trays and rinse my mouth. My lower teeth still look pretty yellow, but that’s because I used Crest strips on my upper teeth a couple years ago, so there’s some contrast. I still have a white stain on my front tooth from when I wore braces in 7th grade. Ah who cares. Only seven more nights of this.

Right now the sky over SF is filled with huge glorious puffy clouds, the kind that tower like mounds of mashatato and sail along like boats. This is because we are between rainstorms.

Since we are a coastal city, the Local News Angle inre the Tsunami is, naturally, COULD IT HAPPEN HERE????? Of course it could, ya dimwits. You know what else could happen? A bigass earthquake, which is a heck of a lot more likely. Still, I was comforted to know that in the event of a massive offshore quake, a fifty-foot tsunami would come nowhere near our apartment. Whew. It would, however, probably total the house I used to live in on 43rd ave, a mere 6 blocks from the ocean. Not that my old house getting hit by a tidal wave is something I had ever wondered about. UNTIL NOW.

Energy level a bit higher today. No caffeine for four days might have something to do with it. I am also not eating sweets for the time being, since my teeth are so vulnerable right now. Also the inside of my mouth tastes funny. It’s like no matter how much I brush my teeth I can still taste that whitening gel.

I played with my sewing machine last night and was discouraged by the fact that the thread was breaking mid-stride over half of the time. And I have no idea why. I hope it’s just that we are using cheap thread. I’m sure part of it is that I just can’t seem to get the controls set up properly — like the tension wheel and the stitch width and so on. Something about that may also be contributing to the thread almost always breaking. How am I sposed to make curtains now?

You can always call my roomate if you need help. She is the master seamstress/sewing machine troubleshooter/repair girl.

    bay area tsunami

Actually the bay area and most of the california shore (south of SF) is protected from tidal waves because of the way the ocean floor is in the pacific. It drops off very very deep just offshore, so the waves would be disapated by this before they ever reached the shore…

Ginger, I meant to tell you the last time you were talking about sewing that I have a couple of antique white beaded clutch purses that were my grandmas – I’d be happy to lend you one for the wedding if you need something.

OMG Noodle… that would be incredibly sweet and generous! And might be neccessary because I have a feeling this “making a purse” endeavor might end in tears. I will keep you posted!

Just say the word, I’ll mail them to you for inspection and if you like any of them, you can choose one of them to borrow. Things are crazy enough getting ready for weddings without adding a sewing project. Besides, you need something borrowed anyway, don’t you?

If you recently put a new needle in the sewing machine, it may be facing the wrong way (the flat side may be facing out rather than in, or vice-versa based on the machine).

That would cause bunching, pulling and breaking of the thread.

That makes sense, but it was doing this with the factory-installed needle that was in there when it came out of the box… any other ideas?

Hmmm … the only other thing I can think of you’ve probably already done — which is, check the “troubleshooting” guide at the back of the manual under “pulling/broken thread” or whatever. The neat thing about new machines is, they pretty much anticipate any problem you can have, and give you a list of possible fixes.

        Other than that, I’m out.

        Sandra might know, though.

Yeah unfortunately the manual that came with it doesn’t really have much of a troubleshooting guide. In fact, it also has some glaring typos!

I guess I will check thee interweb. Or actually go to the sewing shop where it was purchased and ask them. Brian said they offered to help with anything, which was cool.
