Had a bit of an epiphany last night. I was even brought to tears. I was reading this book, which Brian gave me on loan from a friend of his in the dojo, who said it worked for him. It’s basically about curing your back pain on your own, not by doing dozens of different physical therapy exercises, etc, but basically by, let’s face it, doing low and high cobra positions eight times each day, and never, ever slouching again. Posture, and cobras.
The epiphany came when I went through a nine-question list in the book which was to gauge if one would be a good candidate to try this method. I answered every question “yes” — from “Is your pain relieved by walking around?” to “Is your pain brought about by long periods of sitting?” It’s like the handbook for people with disc problems.
I can’t believe it took a year to find, after so many doctor visits, drugs, physical therapy, and acupuncture, etc etc, even disability leave. But I am going to try it, and what I read makes sense — by extending the low back in a cobra, over time you gently move the disc back into place, WHICH IS ALL I NEED TO DO TO RECOVER. Who knows what amount of acupuncture would move a disc.
So I don’t know if it will really do it, but I am willing to give it a try.

I have no doubt that stretching will help. I was thinking about you this morning and was wondering if you’ve tried chiropractic. I have found that it helps SIGNIFICANTLY with back pain. And the whole goal of chiro is to properly align the bones and joints of your body. Accupuncture helps with the pain and inflammation, but it isn’t going to put the disk back in place.
A lot of the chiro I’ve done is supposed to be accompanied by strengthening and stretching exercises. Which sounds like what you’ve started anyway.
