today’s good things

March 2, 2005 by Jane

+ cleaned the kitchen, including litter box and trash cans/recycling
+ took a walk in the sun and had a cappucino at Canvas
+ read magazine article at Canvas about using meditation and hypnosis techniques to manage and overcome chronic pain
+ wandered up to the Park Farmer’s Market grocer and found that their produce is about a third of what Andronico’s charges. Andronico’s is a scandalous rip-off, though, as most locals know.
+ and best of all, the first pre-season major league baseball game was on TV this morning and I lay on the sofa and enjoyed it. Even took a little snooze in the 8th inning. That truly made my day.

And a couple not so good things:

+ my left foot now aches so much that it is affecting how I walk and making my shin/calf hurt when I walk. Yet no one seems to think it needs medical treatment of any kind. Oh, it’s been 3+ weeks. I have no idea how I did this to myself. I feel like a total winner!
+ my back hurts™

I remember my sister brusing something like her heel plate, once. It took a long time to heal.

My foot has no swelling or discoloration of any kind. It only hurts when I bend the toes up, like when I am stepping and putting weight on the ball of that foot. Argh. My plans to take long walks for the three weeks of my disability were pretty much ruined by this.

It actually sounds exactly like a bone bruise on the ball of your foot. Compensating for it is what would make your shin and calf hurt. There just isn’t a whole lot you can do for something like that, if that’s what it is.

Could be, but the pain is localized on the TOP of my foot when I step. Perhaps even between the phalanges, but definitely on top.

    foot/back pain

You need to see either an osteopath (D.O.) or an orthopedist (M.D.) You might have a stress fracture, or plantar fascitis (sp?). And sure your back hurts, you are not walking right. GO! Immediately! You want to be able to dance at your wedding. Love, Mom

      Re: foot/back pain

I already had two doctors look at it and ruled out a fracture or plantar something. It seems to just be a sprain. In fact, acupuncture cleared it up for a day but it came back a bit. But I will ask again when I see my doctor on Thursday. Like I said, no swelling, no discoloration, and it only hurts when I move it a certain way. Probably a sprain.
