mornin’

May 24, 2005 by Jane

I stayed in bed, with husband and cats, until 7 this morning. I had planned to get up “early” so that I could swim before work, but alas, too sleepy. And I consider myself a morning person. I am a morning person once my ass has been dragged out of bed. It’s just getting me to that point. One problem is that we ran out of coffee, so there was no comforting sound of percolation and steam coming from the kitchen, no smell of fresh brew wafting into the bedroom.

So we got up and got ready. I toasted a brioche knot that I bought a couple days ago at the bakery. Brian left before me, as usual. He seemed to be still quite asleep.

I ended up downtown by 8:30, which is early for me. I read on the train — am almost to the end of “Horse People.” Today I brought my laptop in to the office so that we can get it set up for working at home, a concept which delights me.

Since I was downtown so early, I strolled over to the Ferry Building to buy coffee beans. The morning light poured down on the salty bay water and the ferry boats, which seemed to endlessly arrive with another load of people in suits.

Another pound of weight added to my backpack, I wandered along the embarcadero to my office. There’s not a cloud in the sky.
