So I totally forgot to tell you guys about my big celebrity sighting last week. That’s two sightings in two weeks, which in San Francisco is pretty hot.
I saw: James Spader! Twice!
I was walking down the street a block from my office and he got out of a car right in front of me and walked by. I knew it was him from his voice, as well as his appearance, though he was wearing sunglasses and looked heavier than I would have expected. But then I don’t watch his TV show. On the way back from lunch, he walked past me again, with some assistant/minion. He was staring intently at some streetmap, like a big ol’ tourist.
Anyway. It’s hot here today! I had to go to jury doody this morning at 8:30 am (got excused for back problem) and it was already like 75 degrees. Perfect. And to be savored, since most summer days here involve sweaters and jackets.
Last night I took Brian out to dinner and dessert. It was nice. We talked about the future. Talked about when we’ll start replicating ourselves. Possibly as soon as this fall, not sure. Talked about moving to Seattle instead of Chicago, but now I am kind of going back on that again because I remembered how we don’t have great pals in Seattle (we do in Chi) and how Chicago has modern public transit, and is a real city, and so on and so forth. So many pros and cons. The main Seattle pro was that if we moved there next October, we would be able to live in my dad’s house in Poulsbo for free for 7 months while he is off in Arizona for the winter. Free rent is hard to pass up, but do we really want to live in the Northwest? Remember, it is overcast/cloudy literally 75% of the time.
I’m torn. The good news is that we will visit Chicago in about 6 weeks.
Feel free to put in your two cents on this one, readers.

How about instead, you use the half-a-year house in Arizona? Desert pretty! PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY.
1. Because for that half of the year, it’s about 120 degrees every day.
2. Because we would be surrounded by nothing but old people. Ones we’re not related to.
3. The “house” is more like a “doublewide” in a “retirement park.”
4. Dangerously close to the cesspool that is Vegas.
well, you asked!
OK, 2 and 3 are sort of right out. 120 degrees sounds fine though. DESERT PRETTY! PRETTY PRETTY! Your mileage may vary.
I was just in Chicago, and I absolutely love it. They have renovated so much that it is a jewel of a city… even Gavin Newsom, at the mayor’s conference in Chi-Town said that he wants SF to follow Chicago’s lead. (Mayor Daley is pretty great, I think — SIX new libraries have opened. SIX!) The ONLY thing that sucks about it is the weather 2 seasons out of the year — in summer it is unbearably hot and humid (instant sweat), and the winters are FREEZING cold. The weather is why we never moved back after my dad retired.
But go have fun and check out the new and amazing Milleneum Park — it really adds so much community. Where are you staying?
xoxo
We’re staying downtown at the Seneca for three nights, and the rest of the time at a friends apartment on the north side. We didn’t want to make them put up with us for an entire 6 nights! :p
As far as the weather, I look at it this way: 5 million people choose to live there in spite of it, so that says something, right?
ooh the Seneca. That’s where I stayed with Dr. Beau. Its in a great location. And my vote on replicating (not that it matters or is any of my business) is coloured by my own situation and that of my 31 year friend, if you are going to replicate in any case, do it as soon as possible. Besides – what could be cuter than ninja babies?
