+ we went to brunch yesterday with a bunch of friends. It was fabulous. On the way there I found a $20 bill on the sidewalk. I was going to use it for brunch, but one of our outta town friends offered to pay for everyone, which was super generous. So I ended up taking Brian out for huge ridiculous coffee drinks after we had our long and sunny walk through the gorgeous and lush botanical gardens.
+ at the park they were having a cactus show. It was indoors in the County Fair Building. Thousands of varieties of cactii. The sheer diversity in the world of cactus and succulents is really quite remarkable. They all just looked so unique, and many of the species I had never even seen or imagined. Cactus that look like smooth brown fingers. Or like pebbles. Or brains. Anemones. Really cool. Made me curse again our sunless apartment and lack of a yard. Sigh. What we get for living in the Sunset, on the middle floor, and on the south side of the street.
+ today I went for another walk, to Cole Valley. Ended up at Tully’s and had a cappuccino and read some New York Times. I also ran errands which involved getting a bigass bottle of B-complex vitamins. Tamara has told me a couple times that if I aim to get pregnant in the fall, I should start taking folic acid now.
+ after my walk and stuff, I met up with husband in the park by the softball fields. We just lay on the grass for awhile, macking. Then we went to the cheepie market and got soft taco fixins. On the way home we passed someone’s garage sale. They were selling about a hundred back issues of Martha Stewart Living for a dollar. Seeing as how I was unable to carry that many, I grabbed most of 2003 and 2004 (very slender issues those years) and gave her a buck. Score!
+ especially considering how well my little recipe binder is coming along. I went to Staples last week to buy plastic sheet protectors for it. I also got some pens. After I had paid and left, it occured to me that my purchase has been a lot cheaper than I expected. I fished around in the bag for the receipt and found that my $13 box of fifty super heavyweight sheet protectors had been rung up for: $0.50. Okay!
+ a nice weekend overall. The Oakland A’s have somehow turned their entire season around, so it was fun watching them sweep Texas. Tonight I’m going to take a bath. Brian just had to go to the office to do some work, bleah. Tomorrow morning I am going to the gym before work. I went four times last week, which is just right.
