baseball nerdery continues

September 6, 2005 by Jane

This post exists just to infuriate Leonard.

Favorite AL East team: Red Sox
Favorite AL Central team: White Sox
Favorite AL West team: Athletics

Favorite NL East team: *shrug*
Favorite NL Central team: None
Favorite NL West team: Giants

aaaaand:

Most Hated AL East team: YANKEES
Most Hated AL Central team: Twins
Most Hated AL West team: By a very wide margin, the Angels

Most Hated NL East team: Braves
Most Hated NL Central team: CUBS
Most Hated NL West team: The Hated Dodgers

Oh, you are so welcome.

P.S.: I should mention that the main reason I listed the Red Sox as a “favorite” is because they are the most likely to eliminate the Tankees from the playoffs. And I don’t find them totally objectionable.

I can’t entirely disapprove of a post that hates on the Cubs.

    What say you?

You see, the mentality behind being a Cubs fan is simple. Usually, Chicago sports are shameful thing. Awful, at best.

So, why not root for the worst team?

I seem to recall Chicago teams winning numerous NBA championships and a superbowl in my lifetime, which is more than can be said for Seattle, my home town. Whose baseball team has never won anything, but doesn’t fetishize it.

As for the Cubs, I am just a wee bit turned off by the whole “we are losers” spectacle and all the national attention they draw to themselves over it. Also the way fans refer to their ballpark as some kind of holy shrine is slightly offputting. Wrigley seems to be more of a tourist attraction and a place to get drunk. Also that goat thing is kind of retarded.

      No offense intended 🙂

        Let’s do the Superbowl Shuffle!

I hereby declare Chicago winning anything to be a fluke. Kidding!

Personally, I avoid Wrigley at all costs. Not a drinker, can’t sit still for five minutes, and I try to cut out of work at a good time when there’s a game on. (My train home goes right by there). And yes, the goat thing is pretty lame. Did you hear what they did to the infamous Bartman ball?

And on an even more personal note, My first fall up here (Two years back) The Cubs went to the playoffs. The whole city was excited, and that’s what got me hooked. Just the slim hope that they’ll make it- Every game won is a little bit closer to what, historically speaking, is improbable. Every time there’s a home run, I think for a moment.. “What if this is the year? After 90 plus years of losing, what if they actually make it?” I’m hooked on the excitement.

This usually fades about this time every year, then I ignore sports again.

Psssh, Get offended over a game? I’m just glad you got to see the BEAN! in all its polished glory.

I was told by a former Chicagoan your baseball affliation is determined by where you live. North or South Chicago. Mom
