coffeelection

September 6, 2005 by Jane

So my company cafeteria serves Peet’s coffee, and has for about five years now. I love Peet’s. They are a local company and they have great beans.

I came back from vacation to find that apparently my company has gotten some kind of bid from Starbucks to start serving their coffee instead of Peet’s. So of course now the employees are expected to vote on this, tomorrow.

I have filled out 8 ballots for Peet’s, hopefully not in vain. Interestingly, one of the questions on the ballot is “If you chose Starbucks, would you be willing to pay a little more per cup to bring it to the cafes ( about $0.20)?”

Of course Starbucks costs more, but tastes worse. In my opinion. Sadly, my company is populated largely by airheaded yuppies in 7 Jeans who live in the Marina and drive Lexus SUVs, and therefore know no coffee other than Starbucks. They probably thought the cafe already served Starbucks.

Sigh.

    coffee

You should check out Zoka coffee. Locally roasted using organic beans from plantations that treat workers fairly. The owner Jeff is the roaster and has two shops, Zoka Cafe by Greenlake and U Z by University Village. Besides great coffee, he has homemade pastries, and the ambiance of the University HUB. Mom
