tuesday things

September 20, 2005 by Jane

I have a meeting in 22 minutes. It is going to be painfully dull. I know because the guy leading it, while a very nice and brilliant person, tends to put me to sleep in meetings. It is for this reason that I just got a double espresso from the cafe.

Yesterday I wore my favorite jeans and my favorite button down shirt. The shirt is from Banana Republic and is like 3 years old or something. It has long sleeves and blue and white stripes. It is SO comfortable and fits me perfectly. Also the hem does not pucker or roll up at the bottom, a common problem with newer BR shirts. It just lays flat. I love this shirt so much that I don’t dare eat any pasta sauce or mustard while wearing it.

My favorite jeans are from this summer’s Nordstrom anniversary sale and they are made by Worn Jeans. They are the only jeans I own that fit my ass perfectly and fit my waist perfectly. Like a glove. No unsightly “gapping” at my lower back where the top hem is too big for me. Pun intended, btw. I love these goddamn things. I wish I had bought two pairs.

It is extremely autumnal outside. It feels like summer only lasted a weekend here. I want to wear my sweaters and my new wool hat.

I am listening to my coworkers compile a Starbucks order to prepare for the meeting. Ha.

I did an hour of cardio last night and forty minutes this morning. Already my back feels better. Well what do ya know.

Lately I have been really not liking our apartment. Various reasons I guess, perhaps related to wanting to move. I dislike our landlady and feel like she is extremely greedy and petulant. She hasn’t made a single update or renovation to the apartment since she bought it — as in, no new cabinets, floors, plumbing, etc. Everything is very crappy and cheap, esp when you’ve been living with it for a year. Our apartment gets no southern exposure — no light. Our cats savor that ten minutes on a sunny day when they can find a square of sunlight to sit in. It’s just crummy, especially for what we pay. Maybe that’s why my decorating has been so haphazard and unfocussed. I want to decorate a place that is MINE, or that at least feels more permanent. No matter what I feel like there is something messy about our house. We don’t even use our dining room. And so on.

Above all that, I wish I was a more talented decorator/designer. I know it when I see it, but I just can’t execute it myself.

    not really a bart station

    just a movie set:

Duboce Park regulars were astounded last week to see the construction of a concrete faux BART station, with fake escalators descending to nowhere, at the edge of the park. It is a set for the movie “Pursuit of Happyness” and everything will be put back (including trees that were removed)

Oh whew!! But still, that is totally weird.

For the movie I guess they needed a BART station that looked nice and pretty and wasn’t surrounded by junkies and trash.

No! We still have Peets in our company cafe. They were going down the Starbucks on the corner.

It’s frustrating when your home decor/organization standards outpace your rental. There are so many things that I would LOVE to do to our place (refinish kitchen cabinets, but built-ins/closets along the back living room wall) that are pointless ’cause we don’t own it. Even if I can get compensation from our lanlord, it’s not satisfying.
