The coffee machine struggles and sighs on the counter. The sun has come out, but I know it won’t last. Today I need to clean the house and myself. I am thinking about the story I am writing and how to make its characters whole.

Two shows in two nights, ahhhh, that takes me back. Last night after work Brian and I met up with my friend Whitney for dinner. She had just driven up from LA that morning, arriving in the mid-afternoon, greeted of course by yet more rain. Whitney is only in LA temporarily, on assignment for her […]

Today I spent two hours tracing the steps I took from 1992 – 1999. I have a box in my closet full of journals. I kept a daily journal, starting when I was fifteen years old and stopping when I was twenty-six. I didn’t read the high school volumes; they are too mundane and mortifying, […]

Which song is better: “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” by Sufjan Stevens or “Mark David Chapman” by …And They Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead? I know which one creeps me out more. It’s not the one that ends with “fuck you” repeated forty or fifty times. The drummer of the latter band used […]

I made my famous Best Oatmeal in the World today. Rolled oats, milk, water, salt, cooked chopped fresh apple, raisins, a teaspoon of brown sugar, and cinnamon. It’s purrfect. I also looked around on my computer for my old resume, which has not been updated in over five years. Could not find it. Looked on […]

It’s nice to ride home listening to Sufjan Stevens. What’s not as nice is arriving home and getting to hear my upstairs neighbor/bitch landlady playing her usual bad music at full volume. You would not believe how loudly I am listening to “My First Time Volume 3” right now. Today I tried a new “soft […]

Yeah, I need to get back in the habit. I have been working on this fictional piece where the protagonist is blogging her experiences daily, but I recently abandoned that idea, mainly because it seemed like kind of a “cute” device and anyway, blogs traditionally do not expose very many intimate, internal experiences or ideas, […]
