FRIDAY!! Sweet, sweet Friday. Yet, not so sweet as Saturday somehow, which is the Best Day of the Week.
In eating news, I am trying to revert back to the discipline I maintained last summer when I was rapidly losing 15 pounds. Which I have for the most part kept off, mainly because my diet is in no way as shitty as it was two years ago, when it had absolutely no restrictions and I would drink coca-cola with dinner and afterwards eat a big bowl of ice cream.
But, I feel myself slowly creeping back into that area. I am a sugar addict. It’s like crack cocaine, people. Most people pick up this addiction as toddlers. Try not eating ANYTHING with sugar in it for three days. See if you can. It’s not easy; (1) because it’s so addictive, and (2) because it’s in almost everything. And refined sugar has zero positive benefits. Yes, the sugar found in fruits and vegetables acts as food for your brain, but that is different. DIFFERENT! Refined sugar is one of the things (along with simple carbs) that makes humans STORE CALORIES. Gain non-muscle weight.
The human body is engineered to survive in famine. That’s why it packs away unused energy for a “rainy day.” I am very bad at explaining this, which is why I copied and saved this article, which was what prompted me to do things like give up sugary soda and juice and cut back on bread and pasta. I was really “good” (I dislike putting this into “good and bad” terms) about this last summer, but maybe winter has put me in the mood to eat sweets and junk food, and now spring is waking me up.
So last night I took this half-full bag of Doritos I’d purchased and tossed it in the trash. I just didn’t want to eat crap anymore. BUT I LOVE IT SO. You can see my dilemma.
One thing I have learned about changing my eating habits is that in terms of shopping, protein and fat are expensive, carbs and sugar are cheap. Food that is good for you costs more than food that is bad for you. Go figure.
Dinner tonight: roasted creamed chicken breasts with dill and bell peppers, whole rice with dill, steamed artichokes with BUTTER. Mmmmm.
