The last time I moved, there was some urgency, haste, and stress involved. I wasn’t able to carefully comb through the things I told myself I wanted to save. Now I have five weeks to prepare.
I have this huge box full of fanzines. Not the ones I have made, just ones I have read and collected. I want to get rid of 75% of them. I wonder if Epicenter is still around. If they still run the zine library. I think they are long gone now. I only want to keep things that have real significance or real value. I can get sentimental. But as time goes by, things that once inspired nostalgia have lost all meaning and are back to just being rocks or bottle caps.
This makes me sound like a big pack rat; I’m not.
I should start doing all of this now, before I even start packing. Throwing away old makeup, old bathroom items, donating heavy stacks of magazines to the local laundrymat. I mean, what was I really expecting to do with all this stuff? I feel like cutting it all away and living a simpler life. Make sense?

When I moved here? It took me a couple of hours just to go through all my makeup/toiletries/random beauty products closet. Oh man, all the expired stuff I never could bring myself to throw out! It’s SO satisfying to throw it all away.
Good luck!!

Makes total sense. I frequently find myself mumbling, “How much crap does one person really need anyways??!!” And that’s me talking about MY stuff that I’ve been trying to trim down for the past year (and we’ve succeeded as well — took about 9 bags of clothes to Goodwill already).
When I was getting ready to move last summer I bought a heavy duty paper shredder and proceeded to get rid of literally years of credit card receipts, ATM receipts, etc. It was really satisfying.
oh my total dog, TDO, why just this past Saturday I did that! My roommate has a small paper shredder and I minced up about six months’ worth of receipts. Felt good.
I should really start only saving receipts for items I can actually return, and thrwo away the lunch/food/etc receipts…
Been going through this a lot myself recently. MAN it feels good to get rid of stuff you don’t need or want.
