We got the new apartment we wanted! Of course we haven’t yet signed the papers or written the check, but we’re doing that on Sunday morning.

The new place is in an ideal location, next to my second favorite SF park, a favorite cafe of mine, betwixt the Mission, the Castro, and Noe Valley, a block from the J-Church line… it’s a bigger, quieter apartment with new appliances and a normal bathtub (the one we have now was somehow installed backwards, hard to explain, but you can’t lean back in it on either end)… two good pals of mine live in the building. It’s just about perfect.

The only thing I am not excited about is packing. Oh how I do hate the packing. I look forward to culling my stuff though, and throwing a lot away. I just need to find a way to collect about forty perfectly-sized boxes, without having to pay a lotta cash money.

If you have a bunch of books or videotapes that need to be moved, or actually anything that’s on the heavy side, I recommend beer case boxes. They’re compact, generally have handle-holes, and are usually heavy duty cardboard. You may be able to find them free at local stores that sell beer by the 6-pack, but bring it in by the case. Bars would be another potential source.

oooh thanks! I happen to know of a couple bars right near my (current) place…

I hunted around online too and finally found a shipping supply store that will sell me twenty-five 17x13x13 boxes for $26. Or twenty 18x18x12 boxes for $21.40. They are called uline.com.

      Moving

I was going to suggest liquor stores, they always have boxes, and early in the month is better than the end, because everyone moves at the end of the month. Good luck, Love, Mom
