the nineteen nineties

Apologies. Work has been too hectic to allow me to write the Gossip Roundups lately. Which is a shame because this is such a crucial time for Jen and Ben.

So what is happening with me? I’ve been using Friendster to track down the long lost. It’s satisfying to find people and say hello, but then I wonder, what next? Has it been too long now? Maybe. Maybe just saying hi, I am still here and I remember you is enough… But maybe for some it will mean a real reconnection. I don’t know.

I still await my final course grade for the final editing class. It’s been so long now that I have nearly forgotten the assignment. I remember that it had at least four parts to it, and I spent about ten hours working on it. Way back in July was it? Perhaps.

Tonight Brian and I are going to the animation show at the Castro Theatre, where we will delight in some cartoon shorts. Cartoon pants? Hmm.

In the past two weeks I have managed to see what I think are the two greatest films of this calendar year: American Splendor and Lost in Translation. I really can’t say enough about how great both of these movies are — for what they have to say, for their performances, for the way they were made, and so on. See them both. I plan to see them both again.

The presidential election is over one year away. People need to slow down on the speculation a wee bit. That said, I predict that either Dean or Clark gets the nom (edge to Dean), and I would vote for either. I mean, god. Look who we have in there now… I would vote for my cat over GW Bush. She said, rhetorically.

YAY THE NEW TV SEASON IS ABOUT TO START!!!!! I mean, bleah. Ugh. I will probably stop watching tv altogether (except the Daily Show) after the baseball season is over — which, as people in the Bay Area know, won’t be until late October. Knock on wood and stuff.

ooh, i wonder if the disney/dali short will be
in the animation show. it’s been touring now
for awhile, but i’ve yet to catch it.
and i plan on seeing ‘lost in translation’ at
    my earliest possible convenience, perhaps
tonight. and it is truly difficult to watch
television these days. so many channels, so very
    little on.

I’ll let you know how the show goes. Right now I am stuck at work and it’s pissing me off… I hope I make it to the movie on time. Grr.

I’m also interested in others’ reactions to “Lost…” So see it so that we can talk about it!

Yeah. There’s a lot of crap on tv. I used to watch a lot more television. One difference is that now I have moved my viewing almost completely away from the big four networks. If I do watch tv, it’s most often on cable: Bravo, HBO, IFC, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network. The major media networks are stuck in the stone age. It’s all so insipid and unimaginative. And stuff.

here’s hoping you get out of there soon.
i’m stuck here for a bit, sadly.
with the exception of hbo and ifc, and the
addition of the history channel and discovery,
i’m in very much the same television boat.
        anytime i’m watching mainstream television
i feel like i’ve got a big ‘your ad here’ target
on my head. and it seems to be getting so
much worse so quickly now. one can practically
see the vapidity and commercialism grow before
one’s eyes. thank god for books. and dvds. and
        computers. and high-speed internet.

    totally voting for your cat

Simon would be a good, rational leader. Sasha would be a little irresponsible due to youth, licking holes in the constitution and such.
