I registered to participate in NaNoWriMo this year. Which is sorta funny because I haven’t really been writing anything lately. But I think this will motivate me, especially if I trust myself, don’t second guess myself, and remember that no one ever has to see my writing. It is about reaching the goal of 50,000 words in thirty days, not crafting a perfect and publishable novel. I know that won’t happen.
So I will start Saturday, and see how far I get. My friend wrote a novel this summer — it has 167 thousand words and only took her a few months, and moreover, it is coherent and cohesive. I don’t even have an idea yet.
I mean, I have a few loose and muddled ideas, but not one “big idea.”
Again, this is not the point, the point is just writing it, giving birth to it, not really thinking it through, and getting that word count.
