I’ve been rejected yet again for a credit card. I applied online and received the rejection notice yesterday. It was for a United Airlines card through Bank One, so that I could earn air miles. This really infuriates me. I already have a Visa card that was issued to me through my bank four years ago. I have a good job with a good company. I am never late on any of my Visa payments. Why did they deny me – -why am I usually denied a credit card?
Because I am a terrible credit card customer. I am highly undesirable to them. They hate people like me.
I have never been in debt my whole life. Not once.
I haven’t shown myself to be irresponsible and impulsive in my spending.
I haven’t taken out thirty thousand dollars in student loans.
I can’t make them any money. They have no use for me.
And yet someday I will need to have built up some credit (debt!) in order to buy a house or a car.
The credit user who always pays their bill on time is a credit company’s worst nightmare.
Their dream customer is a stupid unemployed nineteen year-old student on a spending spree at Macy’s.
Sometimes I really hate this fucking country.

credit cards
1. Buy something [like furniture] on credit and pay it off.
2. If you get ads for credit cards in the mail [no annual fee] no matter what the interest rate, apply. Get the card, don’t use it. [keep it in a safety deposit box]
3. If you are denied, ask for a reason, and ask for a credit report, by law they have to tell you and provide you with a free credit report.
4. If you get a credit report, check it carefully and make sure it’s accurate [I think there are 2 or 3 national credit reporting agencies], check on line for more info on this.
I think you are right. there is something strange about this. I remember Sears use to give out credit cards with everything. And now-days the Bon-Macy’s is like that. Sales with an extra 10% off if you open an account. Anyway the idea is have a lot of credit cards and use one at a time. ‘They’ like this, it shows discipline and demonstrates responsibility. Love, Mom
Re: credit cards
I did buy furniture with my card, once. I used it for my movers this summer. I used it for two plane tickets to the Midwest.
My rejection letter said: “Few revolving accounts opened long enough to establish credit history.”
I guess I haven’t used my Visa regularly enough… but that just isn’t fair.
I saw my credit report a few months back — it was spotless.
Most of the department store cards are now handled entirely by outside banks, not the stores. They have gotten harder to get. Anyway I applied for Banana Republic card today, we’ll see how that goes.
Re: credit cards
Send nekkid polaroids with your next application. That’s what I do.
