sucrose

December 3, 2003 by Jane

I feel kind of out of shape today. Yes, I went to training last night, and it was really fun and I learned some stuff, but my legs are sort of achey and non-muscular… I just haven’t been exercising at all. Stupid winter. Also I’m not eating so well.

It could be worse (it could always be worse), but my diet has just been crappier than usual lately. I also blame winter for this. I have been craving sugar bigtime, and indulging in it. And I know for a fact that quitting sugar is the primary way I lost weight last year. Not just carbs, which I did cut back on, but basically eliminating treats and dessert and juice and soda. Hard for me to do, but not if I make it a goal and a challenge for myself.

Brian’s gonna hate to read that I am cutting back drastically on sugar 🙂 But the fact is, sugar has little nutritional value, especially the hydrogenated corn syrup found in 80% of all processed food — one of the most dangerous ingredients you can put into your body, by far. Glucose of course is very valuable to the body, in its natural state. That’s why whole fruits should be part of a healthy diet.

The only way for me to do this is to try to be strict and diligent about it. And allow myself occasional treats. I need to not only attend training, I also need to exercise outside of class, including stair climbing (the absurdly steep sidewalk stairs near my house) and free weights, possible yoga. Winter just makes me sit around. Feh.

Tonight: stair climb (in the dark) for 20 minutes, then slooooow arm weights for 30 minutes.
