white winter

December 18, 2003 by Jane

There’s this big pile of clothes on my bed right now. I should do something about it. I am having a root beer float.

I’m officially done with my holiday shopping and shipping, so tonight I went to my friend Rena’s table at the crafts fair inside the Canvas Gallery and bought myself a pair of earrings she made (like these only with amber stones instead of red). I also bought a neat satin bag that looks just like this one. Stoked.

The biggest frustration for me this holiday has been finding things that are perfect for someone after I already bought their gift. Tip for the future: do not pre-emptively make a list of things to buy for people. The gift for them will make itself known to you as you are browsing along. Dammit. Oh well. Birthdays!

I checked out the forecast and it will allegedly snow during the time that Brian and I are in Michigan. This makes me wicked happy. Brian is dreading it, only because he has traumatic memories of weeks and weeks of hellish lame snow, whereas my snow memories are Seattle-based, meaning it would snow twice per year in small amounts and be gone three days later. So, snow was a rare and delightful treat that usually meant no school and lots of playing outside.

I have all of next week off. Heavenly. I shall be restless at work tomorrow.

I’m almost a couple hundred miles north of where you are going but, it suppose to be snowing like a monster trucker all the rest of this week and into next week. We have 4 inches on the ground now and another 7 by midnight tonight. I guarantee a White Christmas.

My little south-eastern corner of wisconsin is the only part of the state that isn’t covered in snow. We have just enough to make things look pretty (literally only like an inch or so). It’s cold as HELL though. Bring wool sweaters and cashmere socks.

Today the midland, michigan forecast calls for all rain while we’re in town. It changes by the minute really so it’s hard to say what the weather will be like…

And it was months and months of snow, not just weeks that made me the way I am today.

But I love the way you are today! Thank you, snow.
