fuck you, job posture

April 13, 2004 by Jane

Yay, my raised work station is finally coming! In seven days. Seven more days of horrible 24/7 back and hip pain. Yes, it has gotten worse, folks. I have to wait until Friday to see a physical therapist, and then I will demand (politely) an MRI and/or a referral to an orthopedist. My lower body just hurts a lot, and funny thing, this all started up again the moment I got back to work from Japan! I am going to see if I can work half-days until my standing work station is built.

I don’t care what I have to do or how proactive I have to be, I just need to be healed, as soon as possible. Sick of this pain. I want to know what it is. Is it a nerve? a disk? WTF? Can I please get some real painkillers in the meantime? I’d like to be able to wake up in the morning and not immediately feel agony in my legs.
I’d like to be able to sit down on the train/bus again. I’d like to be able to exercise, train, do yoga, and otherwise feel strong and healthy like the young girl in my prime that I am.

I got a hair cut. Took a lot of weight and length off, but I still have long hair. I also have cute bangs now! I like it a lot.

Tokyo photo story will hopefully be uploaded tonight, so everyone can see my pictures and descriptions thereof.

I am stupid happy that baseball is back. I TiVo’d Opening Day at “Pac Bell Park” yesterday so that after work I could go home and watch Barry Bonds’ gimantic splash hit to tie Willie Mays career HR record. Shweet.

Class is tonight, and I am pretty much going just to display my new green belt. Tradition says that I should get my new belt from a friend, so Brian gave me his. I don’t know how much I will be able to train though, because of my back. But who knows. It seems to ebb away when I am not in this goddamn chair. It feels great to walk. But one can’t walk 16 hours a day.

Yeah probably… if it’s very serious (I’ll see what the MRI etc says), I could go on disability, but that would suck ass for my team since one other person in our team of four people is going on maternity leave in a week.

Not that I would stick around and suffer just because she decided to have a kid.

I’m trying to stay positive… they will be able to fix this. I have health insurance, lucky me, and I am going to use it for all it’s worth.

Jane, I’m so sorry that you have to suffer!!

Please keep us posted about the MRI results. Your condition sounds very unusual.

    All my best!

Thanks Eme… it’s no so unusual. I have short legs and the furniture/equipment of the world (or of America) is designed for average to tall people (men).

Also humans are not made to sit awkwardly in crappy chairs for 40 hours a week for years on end. I should have taken better care of that… I sat in my chair a lot at home as well, feet dangling …. bad for hips and back.
