crouching tiger

May 13, 2004 by Jane

  • Tonight I borrowed a Honda Civic Hybrid from City Car Share. I kinda fell in love with it. I already knew I was interested in this car. Brian and I both loved it. It costs like $23,000. We can swing that, I think. In the fall when all the cars go on sale?
  • Especially now that we are not planning to spend $2100 on a sofa sectional from Crate and Barrel. We did find a couch we both loved, but I have experienced enough problems with and learned enough about what Western seating does to the back and hips that we mutually decided to go with tatami mats and floor pillows instead. It’s going to be sooo sereeene. Not to mention freeing up space and money.
  • Dinner tonight was stir-fried marinated chicken with vegetables, and a hunk of brown olive bread with butter. Mmm. I went on a huge shopping trip with the car, got large amounts of toilet paper, caffiene-free diet coke, baked beans, things in cans, etc etc. Did not buy meat though, because it was Safeway.
  • Back to the gym in the morning. My body liked the rest, but I still missed exercising. I think if I go early enough tomorrow I’ll be able to spend some time in the jacuzzi, too.
  • My cats rule.
  • The Giants need to start hitting. Or pitching strikes. Preferably both. Gah. But I still love my loser team, and they did win a good one last night. I am annoyed that teams I hate are winning, but hey, at least the Cubs still suck.

    2. couch money=car down payment, totally. I’m sure that you and Brian have good enough credit to get 0% financing, too.
    3. I made peanut noodles last night: whole wheat soba with broccoli, carrots, red peppers and scallions. The sauce was chunky peanut butter, sesame oil, vinegar, shoyu, garlic, ginger, hot red pepper (fresh and dried) and plain yogurt. We served it on spinach and had edamame on the side.
    4. Have you had ultrasound on your hip yet? That helped my mysterious repetative stress shoulder injury a lot.

    • yeah, and I have a sizable chunk of dough in my savings account that is just for things like car or house down payments (well, a house not in California, anyway). So we might be able to put down as much as 50% on the car with what Brian can chip in. Awesome. Hybrids are AWESOME!! Like 75mpg haha!
    • yum. I totally love soba noodles. I brought leftovers for lunch today, which I will toss some tofu into. If I brought my lunch to work every day I swear I would save like $25-30 a week.
    • I have raised the question but so far none of my doctors seem to think it’s neccessary. But I am seeing yet another doc on Tuesday, so I will ask once again. I mean, I have workmans comp now! FREE! But, on the other hand, I think I might be slowly recovering, thanks to making changes in my workstation and getting lots of exercise.

It’s kinda silly, but we should totally have a bring-lunch-to-work support group and trade easy recipes and stuff. I know a couple of other girls who would be down. It does save a TON of money. It’s hard for me to avoid because the hospital that is a part of our campus has the best cafeteria, with a great salad bar, so I never feel guilty about eating the food, just spending the money.
