at last

June 4, 2004 by Jane

Last night Brian and I signed the lease on our new apartment, which will be ours as of June 15. I think we totally scored a pretty great place. Oddly enough, it is four blocks up the street from Brian’s old apartment.

Pluses:

  • Two bedrooms, one to be used as an office. Each has a large closet.
  • Big main living room with enough space for a dining table!
  • Beautiful wood floors throughout.
  • Hall linen closet AND coat closet.
  • OMG, central heating! Thermostat!
  • Eat-in kitchen with built-in breakfast booth.
  • Gas stove, tile kitchen counters, nice fridge, pantry closet, ironing board.
  • separated bath tub and shower stall in bathroom.
  • Big cabinet with shelves in bathroom for all my girly crap.
  • A GARAGE SPACE. For the car we don’t have yet but soon will.
  • Free washer and dryer in the basement.
  • Only one other tenant, and it’s the landlady. This is a plus, yes.
  • Bedroom is in the back of the building.
  • It is two blocks from Andronicos, one block from the train that takes us both to work, and three blocks from a very fruitful shopping area in the Inner Sunset. Oh and three blocks to Golden Gate Park.
  • I get to live there with Futurehusband instead of my roommate!

    Minuses:

  • Well, the bathroom? Is carpeted. Yeah. I plan to throw my soft looped bathroom rug over that so that it will at least stay clean.
  • Windows will need screens.
  • Not a TON Of counter space, but I will manage. About the same as what we have now, in fact.
  • Foggy summer. Like that even bothers me.

I am so wicked excited. Excited to paint the bedrooms, excited to CLEAN even. To have a place that is OURS. I’ll start packing this weekend. I hope we can stay in this place for at least two years so I don’t have to pack again for awhile.

We will be there from September 10-20th, and will pass through Milwaukee probably on the 19th. Maybe we can stay a night there, and drive to O’Hare the next day? Hmm.

Totally. Right on. That is pretty much for-certain nice-weather time, too. O’Hare is around 1.5 or 2 hrs from my house. Too bad you can’t come for more time!

I’ll be out by you in later August, I’ll let you know as soon as I have dates.

      moving

Everyone seems to be moving, you, ert.. me! We are just getting settled in to our new place and its 10 times better than our last, even though we wouldnt have moved if we hadn’t been forced to.

Good luck with the move. I prefer quiet family type neighborhoods, so the sunset is cool with me. Sounds like you’re not as far out as last time either, which is good. Of course now that we have moved, no one can beat Bill’s new commute of a 7 minute (he timed it) walk to work.

        Re: moving

Yay for new apartments! Yeah our new place is on 12th Ave, so it’s much more walkable to inner sunset or even Cole Valley. Though I do wish I could walk to work… from our new apt it would take like 2 hours.
