triple step

June 6, 2004 by Jane

Last night Brian and I took a swing dancing lesson. It was so much fun. The teacher made us switch partners a bunch though so I had to dance with other boys, but that was alright because afterward, Brian and I went to the downstairs studio to practice together a while.

I have never partner danced before, not really. High school dances don’t count, none of those kids knew what they were doing. So last night, dancing around with the guy I love, looking him in the eyes, I actually understood why people love this so much. I feel a bit late to the party in getting that, and for that I blame the 80s and its lame dances.

Going to the park today. And I really need to start packing. Ert gave me a dozen boxes to start with, and she has two dozen more so I am set.

Reagan is dead. I only wish he could have suffered more. He was a bad, bad man. He was a power-mad religious fanatic. He was a fucking asshole. He even made Nixon feel uncomfortable. He hurt millions of his own people through his policies, and millions more in other countries. He was evil, as bad as GW Bush, and the world is better off without him.

Sadly though, he can now be martyred by the religious right wing, and dumb Americans with no long-term memory. It’s a shame.

I agree with your sentiments about Reagan… he was right-wing, he was bad, he had a lot of bad people around him, but he wasn’t a religious freak, unlike the idiot in the White House now.

I dunno, Christian attributed some quotes to Reagan from the 1970s where he quoted the bible a bunch and seemed convinced that the rapture would happen soon and that Jesus was about to come back just because of Communism or some such malarkey. And the right wing wouldn’t love him so much if he hadn’t been a bible-thumper.

    Reagan’s Funeral

According to Walter, who knows how to find out these things, the Order of the Service will come straight out the Book of Common Prayer, with the exception that references to being a believer will be smoothly omitted (leave it to Episcopalians to have a way to cover all eventualities). I think there is only one “national Death” that can effect you in a lifetime, for me it was John Kennedy. Love, Mom
