chlorinated

September 28, 2004 by Jane

The bands of muscle around my ribs and across my abs are a bit sore today, in a good way. I went swimming again last night; another ten laps, another struggle for grace. But I did it and felt great afterward as I sat in the froth of the jacuzzi. It’s such a speedy and full-body workout, done in 25 minutes, and never really too crowded. I had to share the slow lane with two others, though for two laps I had it all to myself.

Didn’t sleep well last night though — Sasha kept waking me up, and I stayed up way too late working on the wedding website and then reading. I wish my legs weren’t so fucked up. I really started feeling it after working on the site for about four hours, listening to baseball on the radio. And I got so into it that I didn’t really drink much water either. Oh well, it’s 90% done and looks awesome.

This morning I deep-conditioned my poor chlorine-soaked hair. Worrying about my hair might keep me from swimming as much as I should.

I am drinking a double latte after lunch. So tired! Is it all the exercise? Well that makes no sense. Not enough sleep I guess.

We are looking at wedding bands on Saturday. We pretty much know exactly what we want. We’re going to this wholesaler type of shop in the Gift Center, appointment only. Apparently they are reknowned for their incredible service and quality. But the thing is, unlike some people, we don’t have an extra thousand bucks for our rings, our budget is around $600 for one white gold mens band and one white gold womens band with like 1/4 carat of channel-set diamonds. I know for a fact I could get those at a mall jewelry store for around that price. But I don’t want to do that if I know I can get the best quality at the small wholesaler boutique. But then I have two friends who got their engagement rings at this shop and got a “great deal” for four or five thousand dollars. So I dunno. Feh. I guess they used a credit card?

Weddings are so expensive… once again glad for all the extras we are leaving out.

my wedding band isn’t too different from the one pictured except i used saphires and diamonds in mine. it was about $450 and i was happy with that. weddings are insanely expensive…we have a gigantic guest list which is on the verge of being ridiculous thanks to my future mother-in-law…oh well, you only do this once!

Yeah, our guest list has somehow climbed from 60 to 75 all by itself 🙂 Our limit was supposedly 60, but now I would like to trim to 70 if I can. When you’re paying for the wedding yourselves, 75 seems big!

My engagement ring has a sapphire, I love that stone.

ah, that’s cool, i just love blue in general.

we are paying for a lot of things ourselves but luckily our parents are also paying for things. there are so many things that i never thought about that go into weddings. it’s just crazy. it’s a good thing i have people who know more about it than i do or i’d be in big trouble 🙂

        when are you getting married?

April 23. So we still have time, and luckily already have the location, caterer, photographer, and florist, among other things, nailed down.

Our families will hopefully kick in some money, but we are definitely paying for most of it, as far as I know.

Back in the day when I swam and worked in swimming pools I used the UltraSwim shampoo. Another option, unattractive though it may seem…plastic bathing cap. Keeps your hair dry. (although easier to actually wear if you wet it in the tap first…getting it on is the bitch).

I have a speedo cap but I have so much hair that it keeps slipping off. So I am probably either not positioning my mass of hair correctly, or I am swimming so retardedly that it is forced from my head. One of those.

You won’t believe it– but that’s exactly what my wedding band looks like. EXACTLY.

Wholesalers are the only way to go, personally. That’s where we got my e-ring and our bands. Trust me, you should be golden. For a simple white gold men’s ring and my 1/3 carat of chanel-set round diamonds (13 diamonds), starting asking price was $800. I bargained it down to $500. With your budget, start lower than you are happy with, and work up from there. Good luck. Just know that for exactly what you want, I got it for $500.

Thank you so much for that vote of confidence! I hope it works out that way. I actually am more invested in how I want my wedding band to look/feel than the engagement ring, because I plan to wear the band by itself every day and you know, it’s the marriage ring! I want it to be just how I want it.

I hope the folks at Derco are used to people like us coming in and saying “hi we’re not rich and not prepared to go into debt…”

I hope so too. I think that was our motto for our wedding (“wedding with no debt!”). Actually as I type this, I am only wearing my wedding band. Wearing my e-ring at work (i.e. in the field) is troublesome, it gets dirty, and it gets caught on things (fishing nets and the like). You are right in really investing in the band.

        Good luck!
