flipper

October 23, 2004 by Jane

Woke up early this morning with a sore throat on the right side of my neck. I know what that means. Ugh. I got up around 9:00 and swabbed the inside of my nostrils with some Zicam, hoping the mega doses of zinc will dull the effect of the coming cold.

It has been raining all day. Went to swimming lesson at 11:30, which was actually pretty fun. In fact we may be slightly overqualified for this class, since we have been swimming for exercise a couple times a week. But the instructor still gave me and Brian tips on form and technique, and after the class I did a few more laps — in the medium speed lane for the first time.

It’s so weird how quickly my feeling about water has changed. I used to be scared or uncomfortable at best about swimming or being in the water, but that all seems to be changing. Just last summer when we went canoeing I strapped my lifejacket on tight and was nervous the whole way about falling in somehow, and then when we all swam around at the beach, I even kept the lifejacket on then! Can’t imagine doing that, now. I feel like I’m turning into a little dolphin, my comfort level has gotten so much better.

Of course the water is only 3.5 feet deep… and the Y doesn’t have a deeper diving pool for me to experiment in, so my comfort with actual deep water will have to wait. But I can definitely swim now. Finally.

Rainy Saturday afternoon to do list:

Sweep and Swiff all floors
Laundry
Clean the bathroom
Do my nails
Watch World Series
Organize clothes hanging in the closet
Organize my products and makeup all over my dresser
Make dinner
zzzz
