Rebecca came over last night and we talked about flowers for a couple hours. It was actually pretty productive, though she still needs to see the location.

lilacs, tulips, & curly willow

white peonies

purple mini calla lilies

white dendrobium orchids (for hair & corsages)

mini callas with tulips and seeded eucalyptus

seeded eucalyptus
I swam 500 meters this morning before work. I’m getting a lot better, but still having to struggle with breath control and breathlessness. Probably just need to keep at it to increase endurance, but I am not swimming again until Saturday, to give my hair a rest. I think Saturday, Mon & Tues is a good swimming schedule…
So much work today, so I should finish my morning goof-off/catch-up now.

ooo purty
Jane – I love the curly willow, lilacs, and tulips. Very original and strikingly beautiful 🙂
Re: ooo purty
Thanks! I actually created a bouquet like that (minus curly willow) for a baby shower party at work last spring and really liked it a lot. Plus the smell is really great, but not too overpowering.
I think I might draw a lot of inspiration from that bouquet pic near the bottom… it’s very close to what Rebecca and I talked about the other night, oddly.
Re: ooo purty
I’m usually not into calla lillies…for some reason they remind me of funerals heh, but the dark red ones do like nice with the rest of the arrangement. The calla lillies seem like an accent, which works nicely. I also like the idea of incorporating greens, not only are the fresh – but I’ve heard greens are cheaper than flowers! I want tons of flowers, but due to budget constraints I think I’ll do without in some areas such as the centerpieces.
Re: ooo purty
Yeah Rebecca is dead set against white callas (pardon the pun) and I am fine with that. I like the colored ones much better anyway. I’m going to use purple ones.
There are so many great greens that are very cheap if bought by your florist wholesale. Eucalyptus is my favorite, as well as sage and bear grass.
This has a good list of seasonal May flowers:
http://www.freshroses.com/may.html
But bear in mind that list is only what that particular website has in stock, for example there aren’t orchids or lilacs on there.
May is also a great food month because so many fruits/vegetables are coming into season around then.
ooh gorgeous flowers.
and I think the breathing gets easier when you swim more often. The key is to blow out your “bubbles” while your face is in the water and when you are done blowing, turn your face out of the water and breathe in as deep as possible. Natasha was practicing it while we were driving around – something like breathe out for 5 seconds and breathe in for 2 seconds – until she perfected it.
Which stroke are you doing? I think I can only do backstroke and breast with my head out of the water. I hate getting my face wet – even with goggles.
And the only thing that is saving Natasha’s hair from the water right now is wearing a cap – they have some pretty cool ones now.
