toning

Did some of my new Pilates DVD tonight. It’s really good and I like the instructor. Which is a plus because on many of these home exercise things the instructor or the disembodied voice is really irritating. But on this DVD she is actually doing the workout as she guides the routine, so, more like being in an actual class. Yes, being in a class would be better, but my gym’s Pilates classes fall on pretty non-convenient schedules. And that is why I swim and do weights instead.

Anyway Pilates is great. Super challenging (um, for me), and easy to do at home on the rug.

It’s still hot here in SF. The spell should be broken by Halloween, as always, and then the rain will come.

The smoke from the wildfires in Napa drifted over the northern edges of the City again tonight. As I walked home from the optometrist’s, straight ahead of me the sun was hanging there in the haze like a giant glowing orange. The sunset was fire and copper tonight.

At the optometrist’s, I finally got a new pair of contacts. More breathable. I’ll probably order a supply of boxes when I go back next week. My prescription has only worsened a little in the past 18 months, which is actually an improvement on past rates of decline. I really needed new lenses though. The doctor took a couple digital pictures of my eyeball — blown up so big that I could see my eyelashes clinging like reeds to my eyelid — and showed me how red my whites are, lacy with broken capillaries. I tried to explain about the swimming, but he said that the location of the broken blood vessels told him that they had been irritated by my nasty old contacts. I am to try to wear my glasses more often.

I tried on some nice lightweight Gucci wire-frame eyewear, but for now that is just out of my price range. They sure made me look smart, though!

Finally, we caught some of the debate tonight. It goes without saying that Bush came off like an angry, repetitive imbecile. What is even more important is that Kerry seemed incredibly presidential. Imagine: a thoughtful, experienced, educated, intelligent, articulate, empathetic president. We should expect no less, eh?

I was thinking about getting a pilates video, it seems like a good work out. However, the Winsor pilates ones are like 40 bucks! I’m a poor, poor college student lol. Let me know if you keep up with it and if the video is still good. It would be nice for the mornings. About how long is it per session?

Two workouts: one is 40 minutes, the other an hour. Which is good.

I got this DVD from amazon for $16, I don’t think the video version would be much different…

I bought the Winsor Pilates DVD but so far have only had the time to do it once. Anyway, it’s very subtle and that’s what makes it hard (at least for me). I wish I could take classes but they’re so expensive. This weekend I will do the Pilates DVD at least twice.

Tell me if you see or feel any difference, Ginger. I hear so many great things about it.

    brand reccomendation

My black frames are gucci. I’ve had them for going on 5 years now, and they are still in great shape. I am not careful with them, either. They get dropped and tossed in a backpack pocket constants.

I love your Gucci frames, Allison!

Yeah, I know when you pay $200 for glasses you’re paying for quality. I am intrigued by the extravagance of owning two pairs of glasses — one heavy and plastic and nerdy and French, one light and metal and bookish and Italian.

      HMM I SAY.
