Ah, I smell like the pool. Mmm.

New exercise shed-yule:

Tues and Wed – weight training circuit at gym
Thurs, Fri, Sat – swimming, at least 500 meters
Sun, Mon – rest and yoga
throughout – pilates and stretching at home

I need to find a way to do my breathing while I swim in a relaxed way. Maybe I just don’t have the endurance/lung capacity yet. But it seems like between every lap (2 pool lengths), I have to stop and catch my breath before continuing. It’s almost like I start to panic a little at the end of each lap from being out of breath.

Anyway. My new goggles are indeed gone. I left them at the pool Saturday and someone stole them, because they weren’t in the lost and found. Thanks, jackass.

It’s been two hours since I went swimming and now I need a nap. Too bad I’m at work.

Only five to eight baseball games left in the season. Brian is very happy to know this. He has been a real sport (ha) about letting me watch all these playoff games, and I love him for it. I wonder how many other couples have a woman who follows a sport and her guy doesn’t? I bet it’s more common than people think.

For those who have been wondering, my back and legs are very slowly improving. I did have a relapse last night and this morning however when my hip and hamstring hurt a bunch when I got out of bed. But I quickly attributed it to the fact that I made the mistake of sitting in an N-Judah train seat on the way to and from work yesterday. Those seats are absolute hell on my body. They were designed for men, obviously, or people over 5′ 6″. I need to avoid them. I also used the elliptical trainer yesterday, so I am going to stick with swimming for my cardio as I know that it’s really good for my back.

I’ve finished my work for today already so I guess it’s time to play with my photos page some more…

the breathing part seems to be the hardest thing about swimming. I do a couple of laps, pause to catch my breath, and stare in disbelief as other people go back and forth nonstop.

I wonder if it’s a skill that eventually clicks or if there’s more of a trick to it.

Well, you do breathe during the lap, if you have the technique. It takes practice.

Like if you’re swimming freestyle, on every third stroke, alternating sides, you move your head over and take a quick breath. With breaststroke, obviously, it’s a little breath every time you come back up when pushing your arms to the side.

It took me years to get the breathing right while swimming freestyle, but once you get the rhythm down, it’s pretty cool.

I can’t imagine having to hold my breath the whole length of the pool!

I know how to breathe every third stroke, and I do that, but I still get pretty winded. Luckily swimming lessons start on saturday!

I think I just need to get used to it and not feel like my lungs are going to essplode.

i feel the same way about the yankees as i do about the lakers – now if only the yankees would lose the championship 2 years in a row and get dismantled. plus my dad’s a sox fan, so i’ve always had a soft spot.

sorry. I meant that I don’t think I’m breathing enough (oxygen-wise) while swimming (usually every fourth stroke, though I feel like it should be an odd number, which seems more complicated but better form-wise).

I only say this because I’m tired after a lap or two and assume it’s due to improper breathing since I don’t feel physically tired. It’s probably a matter of practice.

my soon to be mother in law is psychotic when it comes to baseball. i’ve been avoiding her actually due to this. it’s fine if you want to watch the game and all but if you ask me to come over to work on some wedding stuff and you spend every other minute on the phone or yelling at the tv due to something game related, that is where the line is drawn! grr. but yeah, good job sox…i hate the yankees.
