Hi, good morning! I woke up still disgusted. I mean, literally, my stomach turns to think that my homeland is the same homeland as millions of backward fascists who would rather lose their jobs, their health insurance, and heck, their own lives, rather than let two other people have the right to marry. I mean, that is literally it. That is fundamentally it. The right wing picked an enemy that threatens “American values” (gays) just like the Nazis picked theirs (the Jews), and it’s all headed down that road.
People are saying “stay here and fight!” For what? For what exactly? Fight for these religious wingnuts? Fight for people who voted for Bush, or for people who didn’t vote at all? Let them have the living hell they deserve. I can’t really feel sorry for any of them right now.
Fight for the nebulous idea of “America”? Well, that’s a fairy tale. That idea is gone, or it only lives in the bubbles of our big cities. We aren’t a land of free people searching for justice and truth and fairness and equality. Give me a fucking break. The GOP have been working to destroy that idea for the last 50 years, and guess what, we’re here. We let them do it. They caused enough diversions and distractions, and let our educational system fall into ruin so that the electorate would be incapable of rational thought.
I just don’t care right now. Maybe I’m only temporarily upset, but it really is sounding nice right now to find a nice progressive, open-minded, socialist democracy, and just cut the strings forever.
Or just hole up here in my bubble and never leave.

Fight for the gay children of religious wingnuts.
This is a good point, but I guess I don’t really see what I can do. I already support gay rights and my gay friends. I am as liberal as can be. I love living here in the gay mecca, even though it is too expensive for almost everyone.
It’s sad but I think it has gotten to the point where the right wingers in power really will not listen to any other viewpoint. So at this point I don’t feel like writing a letter or signing a petition will do anything.
I don’t know how much petition-signing does anyway. But there is a lot you can do. You can refuse to subsidize/buy from companies that support the causes you oppose. You can volunteer your time and engage in acts of compassion which change things and experiences one person/situation at a time. If teh only reason to fight is to change the minds of the people who are benefitting from the status quo, well, of course it’s pointless. But to just throw up your hands and say there is nothing you can do? Will only be true if you decide it’s true and don’t bother. The choice is yours.
I always thought petitions would work, until the incident my mom chartered. We had horrible people in the governmental positions in our township, so she and another lady started a petition to get a vote to recall them. We finally got enough petition signatures, had another election for the recall, and none of them got kicked out of office…my dream of petitions was shattered to say the least. My mom gives up too. It sucks.
