birthday

January 5, 2005 by Jane

It’s been a nice birthday. Brian organized a dinner with our friends Rena and Derek who just happen to be visiting this week (they live in Bklyn), and he set it up at this Turkish restaurant which I happen to LOVE, having eaten there only once. Brian didn’t even know I had been there, so it was sweet serendipity. The food is awesome. We had lots of good conversation and as usual I got tipsy on one glass of wine. SO good to see those two! I miss ya, renabobena…

For my birthday, my man bought me two gorgeous hardcover Alton Brown cookbooks. Mmmm. Very excited to read them. My mom sent me knitting supplies: baby blue wool yarn, needles, yarn cutting device, needle measuring card, and a Vogue knitting guide. She also sent a bunch of samples of this skincare line called Biotherm. It was a very sweet gift package, all wrapped up in this neat velvet covered box.

So as my birthday is so close to xmas and new year’s, it is only now for me that the holidays are TRULY over.

I trust that you got separate presents?

You mean separate xmas and birthday? Yes. It would be cruel otherwise! I just feel bad for kids born ON xmas, what a ripoff! Heh.

I have always wished I had a summer or spring birthday.

      Ooops!

Of course our registry list is like 75% kitchen/cooking stuff. Heh.

Where are you registered? I don’t have that info.

I don’t buy a lot of new kitchen stuff – the thrift stores here are so good. I’ve had great luck finding terrific quality vintage stuff (including my stand mixer). I’ve bought knives new, of course, and I would like a really good quality non-stick pan with a metal handle, for stuff like eggs that we don’t like to cook in the cast iron skillet. I’m sick of buying $8 non-sticks and then replacing them in a year when the teflon starts to scrape off.

I emailed you with registry info.

My “nonstick” pans are almost five years old, and not only that, they didn’t start as high quality in the first place (Target). The fry pans are now unusable. In fact the only pan we really use is a really big 12″ saute pan my mom gave me a year or so ago, which is of better quality.

So that’s why we have a aet of cookware on our registry. The kind that will last for longer than two years.

Happy Birthday, Lady Jane! It seems like yesterday you were the cool “kid” hanging out…

I’m so excited for you with everything going in the coming year!
