We took a very long walk today during the big football game. Went from our house straight down through the park to the beach as the sun was setting. About two and a half miles or so. The wind picked up fiercely just as we emerged from the trees out onto the flat space across the highway from the dunes. It blew up from the sea and creating long ripples in the dry sand away from the water’s edge. There was a massive chunk of log sitting by itself on the beach, on fire. The whole thing smoldered orange, so hot that no flames licked forth, just bright orange embers that flew in tiny particles with the wind up toward the dunes. I worried about some big bit somehow making it up the hill into the grass, but Brian assured me it couldn’t happen and that the tide would put out the fire eventually. It devoured the strong wind hungrily, as fires are wont to do.
Then we circled back to Java Beach Cafe and drank tea and apple cider. And rode the N-Judah back home.
Diet note: it’s going smashingly. Back down to fitness caloric level today and full of energy. I’ll probably get to sleep early though so that we can get up and get to the gym by 7am.
sounds much better than watching that big old football game was.
good writing, that.
