clean

November 19, 2005 by Jane

Today Brian and I are doing a massive housecleaning project. The kind speed freaks do. The kind people do for money. Scrubbing grout, bleaching the shower, dusting window frames, wiping down cupboards. Nothing like a shiny, spotless, sanitized house. You see, my mom is coming on Thursday and we’re having dinner here.

We also developed a mild fruit fly problem in our kitchen which is to me more disgusting than ants for some reason. I also have a foolproof method of killing the bastards. Needed: one bottle, some apple cider vinegar, a drop of dish soap, and a paper cone.

The flies enter the bottle through the cone, aiming for the delicious vinegar, and upon landing, they drown or are poisoned by the dish soap which makes the vinegar too viscous to stand on. I set this up in the kitchen yesterday morning and when I came home a couple dozen little fly bodies were in the bottom of the bottle. Ha.

The weather here is still disturbingly unseasonal.

I still need to clean the dining room. Oh how I wish we had some storage space in our garage.

We went out for a coffee break after lunch and sat on the sidewalk drinking our drinks and talking about how great it will be when we have our own place with a deck. It’s a nice thing to aim for.
