Which song is better: “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” by Sufjan Stevens or “Mark David Chapman” by …And They Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead? I know which one creeps me out more. It’s not the one that ends with “fuck you” repeated forty or fifty times.

The drummer of the latter band used to serve me coffee at the Smithfield a zillion years ago. I wrote an article about one of his band’s (Honeybucket) shows in the college paper and people made a big deal out of the fact that I pointed out that he was playing drums barefoot. Well, he was! How scandalous.

Whitney persuaded me to get tickets to see Rogue Wave at Noisepop. I am not too familiar with them, but why not. It’s at Bimbo’s, which is one of the best clubs in the city. So this will mean two shows in two nights for me. GOOD.

I remember ten (augh) years ago when Ert and I saw Pulp play at Bimbo’s. It was during their Different Class tour and they were so much fun, OMG. There’s actually a picture of us at that show and I’m wearing an Oasis tshirt. Hahaha britpop.

Anyway, on that night I saw one of the worst bands I have ever seen, I think to this very day. They were called The Elevator Drops. I think they may have actually been heckled. They had on stupid costumes and I seem to remember a tinfoil-covered cucumber? One of those situations where it crossed that fine line between clever and stupid.

I’m having hot chocolate and was watching this Japan/Korea baseball game, which is now delayed by rain. I love how some of the Japanese players have these long razor-cut trendy hairdos with highlights. That cracks me up. Man, Korea has just completely fallen apart, haven’t they?

One more thing: I googled “jane.org” today and got the following description in the search results:

“A woman writes about life in California, news, and computers as well as posting her photographs.”

What the hell? Do I really write about COMPUTERS? And “news”? Are you fucking kidding me, Google? I write about baseball, music, handbags, ovulating, going to the gym, and every other random thing that pops into my head. Try to keep up.

Yeah! Oh we were so happy that night. I’m so happy I saw them in a little club. I saw Oasis and Blur around then too, but I saw them in huge venues and from a long, long ways away.

being the britpop freak that i am/was (i’m a recovering anglophile), i saw blur at bimbo’s back when the cardigans opened for them. that was for ‘the great escape’ i believe. and before that i first saw blur w/ pulp at the fillmore for blur’s ‘parklife’ tour. now *that* was an awesome show.

i always loved suede too. oasis i saw at this tiny dive bar in sacramento on their first-ever tour, and even then liam was talking about how they were the best band since the stone roses. cheeky git.

Sufjan, without question. Brings it home, in that intimate little song that reminds you that we’re all not so different.
