today is the day

September 13, 2007 by Jane

The truck left a little while ago, loaded with a couple thousand pounds of our possessions. Hiring movers is so infinitely worth it. Particularly when you own a six-foot tall armoire and are watching them somehow miraculously carry it out the back door, making a turn that requires the screen door be taken off its hinges, and getting it down the steps in one blanket swaddled piece.

Now the apartment is empty, except the bedroom where I am laying on an air bed. Boxes and suitcases surround me, ready to be loaded into the car. In 24 hours we will be well on our way.

The cats are in full on WTF mode. They get special pills in the morning.

Good luck on the move! Warning about those kitty sleepy pills, we got some from the vets for our cats when we moved from MI to MA – they told us to give 1/2 pill and then 1 pill if it didn’t kick in within 1/2 hr…well at least for both our cats (3 yrs 16 lbs, 4 yrs 14 lbs) it took about 2-3 hrs before they were well under the effects. One pill seriously lasted for the entire 14 hour trip and then some! So don’t worry when the kitties are sleepy and weird for almost 24 hours ๐Ÿ™‚

my vet said to give one pill 2 hours before we leave, so do you think they will only need 1/2? They are around 12-14 lbs each.

our vet said to give 1/2 pill to the 14lb cat, wait 1 hr, then give another as needed. I don’t think I should’ve given him the second half, but I did. Both cats ended up getting an entire pill – but it scared me how far out my little one was.

2 hour wait sounds like a much better idea than 1/2 hr, they should be blissfully sleepy by then! ๐Ÿ™‚

good luck and drive safe! our cats survived iowa to alaska, then alaska to minnesota, then minnesota to arizona so despite their issues with moving, they’ll be fine!

    • on September 14, 2007 at 4:38 am janechurch

wow, so at what point did they stop meowing? ours will be stoned anyway, heh. thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
