real age

January 5, 2008 by Jane

This morning around ten minutes to eight, I completed another lap around the sun.

I really do not feel like I am my “numerical age.” But then, how would I know what that feels like? I don’t know. I just feel younger than I am. I know I look younger than I am — I am told that all the time and I wonder sometimes if it’s just due to my size.

Maybe it’s that I never smoked, rarely drink, take pretty good care of myself, am in good health, have good genes. Ironically, it’s probably a lot to do with my having never had any children. How funny is that? Not very.

It’s blustery and wet today, but we’re going to Seattle anyway for shopping and dinner. Last night we looked at houses online again and found many over here in Kitsap that we like and can afford. I am still not sure if I am going to be able to get by as a freelance web developer. I am still not sure if I am pregnant. Lots of limbo right now, but it’s starting to sort itself out a little bit.

Happy birthday, rock star! By an odd coincidence (OR WAS IT?), you were in my dreams last night.

did I look hot? Did I have all of my limbs?

Absolutely you looked hot! I’m pretty sure I would have noticed if you were missing a limb.

happy birthday! i think a big chunk of looking younger is not smoking. it’s amazing how that ages people. my brother-in-law is 3 weeks older than me but might as well be 10 years. his face is so weathered by all the smoking and drinking…ick. it’s a good thing i’ve got the non-smoking hotter younger brother 🙂

    enjoy seattle!

It was windy but dry by the time we reached Seattle. After wandering around doing some shopping we went to the Metropolitan Grill for dinner. It was completely packed with Seahawks fans, of course. Good thing we had reservations. As we were waiting to be seated, Head Coach Mike Holmgren arrived for dinner with his family in tow. He was greeted by wild cheering from the bar. I was very surprised to see that he drives an old Subaru Outback.

Oh, and by the way, Monstera deliciosa is a KICKASS name for teh book. Or a band…

It’s also just an all-around cool plant. I have two, and I might need more.

          Re: Happy Birthday!

I’m so glad to read this! I like it more and more as a title. I like that it “means something but doesn’t mean anything.” It’s one of the plants owned by one of the main characters, his favorite one. But other than that it doesn’t have a ton of significance, it’s just a very cool word, fun to say, can have multiple interpretations, etc. I hope no one steals it…
