I did not know that

May 21, 2008 by Jane

Last night I caught up on my CBS Sunday Morning news show, which was on the Tivo and is the only televised news that I watch. Because it is always smart instead of dumb, which I guess is why they put it at 7:30am on Sundays.

Anyway, I found out something so fascinating (to me) that I wanted to tell you all about it, though many of you might already know this.

So back in the 1920s, in Germany, a man named Adolf “Adi” Dassler began making sports shoes with his brother, Rudolf. They created the shoes used by gold medalist Jesse Owens in the 1936 Olympics. They were a successful team, until a family rift came between them in the 40s, and they split up to form independent shoe companies. To this day, these two companies, started by German brothers, are two of the largest athletic shoe and apparel companies in the world.

Adi called his company “Adidas” (an abbreviated version of his name), and Rudolf called his company “Puma.”

The end.

By the way, my day started out really shitty, and I am hoping that it will improve soon.

I have been watching/listening to CBS Sunday Morning for as long as it’s been on, I think like 20+ years. It’s part of my Sunday Morning ritual before Church. By the way, sometimes it comes on at 7:00am (like now) sometimes at 8:00am (like during Football season) and during Wimbledon, it comes on at 6:00am (have to have it before strawberries). Mom
