I have just canceled subscriptions to Lucky, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. Last night thumbing through the latest Lucky to arrive, I realized, hey, I don’t need this shit (by shit I mean beautiful clothes and shoes). And looking at pictures of it just makes me want it. So if I don’t have the pictures lying around, smelling of perfume and killing trees, I am better off. If I feel the need to buy a sweater or something, I’ll go look for one in a store; I don’t need Lucky to sell one to me.
I’ll donate my pile of issues somewhere… a hospital? Where?
And maybe renew my old sub to The New Yorker, but not just yet.
So that leaves House Beautiful and Cooks Illustrated.
What magazines do you take?
New York Magazine is a fun read. Also The Sun. If it is free, I like to pick up Real Simple.
i get newsweek and radar. with newsweek, i’m usually many weeks behind or i browse the newest and then go back to my pile…i am a poor magazine reader since it takes me so long to go through an issue. i also pick up real simple from time to time. both my subscriptions were free from some online thing. we were hoping for time but that wasn’t offered.
